Help for Puerto Rico Furniture donations to families in need

When the 2017 hurricane season caused widespread damage, City Furniture made a pledge to unite and help our neighbors. Over six months and many recovery efforts later, that pledge is still very much alive.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have been largely spared from the worst of it, and we know that makes it our duty to help others who were not so lucky—like our friends in Puerto Rico. The island was hit so badly that it was difficult to arrange donations initially, so we were eager to act once we got word they were ready receive our help.

Through owner Keith Koenig’s connection with the Archdiocese of the Miami Catholic Church, we were able to arrange a massive donation to Caritas de Puerto Rico, a charitable organization. They informed us of a seminary that was in need of 67 beds and mattresses, so we took care of the beds and our Sherwood vendor donated the mattresses.

In addition to that, we have our partner Ashley HomeStore to thank for donating enough sofas, loveseats, and chairs to furnish 25 livings rooms. And since we were making the trip, Caritas asked us to pick up 15 pews from a church in Hollywood, and we were more than happy to oblige.

The ship arrived the first week of May, and it’s just a small step in the long process of recovery for Puerto Rico, but we hope it made a big impact in those that received it.
